What is SEO?

Search Engine optimization most commonly referred to as SEO is the new way to market your site or company on the internet. It is the practice of getting the Search Engines to do all of the hard work for you and allow them to bring the traffic and the business to you. It is easy to get these Search Engines to work for you, all you have to do is follow a few simple steps and you will be well on your way to earning your company or site a lot more traffic in the future.
Getting Started With SEO

The most important part about Search Engine Optimization is understanding what SEO is and learning how to make it work for you. Think about what you do when you cannot think of an answer for a question that keeps bugging you, you simply pull up your favorite Search Engine and type in your answer. Google is obviously one of the most universally known Search Engines. Pull up Google.com and type in your question, and you will end up with pages of results. The first results that you will receive are the “Featured Sites” all this means is that those websites are paying money in order to be at the top of your search result, it does not mean that they are the best page for information. After the few “Featured Sites” the real list of the websites that most apply to your search will begin.

The order of the website results that you will receive will be based on keywords that the Search Engines find within your webpage or article. The Search Engine will place the websites that they think are the closest matches or have the most information for your search at the top and the further down the list you go the less likely you are to find a decent amount of information on the topic that you are searching.
Important Facts to Know About SEO

The reason that SEO has become so popular is that if you are able to organize your website so that it becomes one of the top results in a Search on all of the major Search Engines the amount of increased traffic that you will receive will be off the charts. Most individuals want a quick answer on the majority of the items that they search. That means that most people do not look past the first few links when they search a topic and it is very rare for someone to search results past the first page. You may be the first result on page 2, but the likelihood of someone actually clicking on page is very  slim.
SEO is not simply based on the keywords in your site. The Search Engine will look for other things such as content, quality, headers, speed, and other factors that might be helpful to someone conducting some sort of research. The Search Engine will also look for a lot of items that will affect you negatively such as spam, too many advertisements, paid links, limited information, or basically anything that may not be that helpful for a person looking for information on a topic. It is critical to learn and understand SEO practices in order to help and ensure that you have a successful website.
